Eligibility
You must have a Housing Choice Voucher or live in subsidized housing to participate in the Family Self-Sufficiency program.
How the Program Works
To join the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program you must:
- Attend an orientation meeting
- Fill out an enrollment packet
- Sign your Contract of Participation
An FSS Coordinator will help you identify and work towards your goals, with one-on-one coaching to help you stay on track. You will also receive information about community resources, such as employment services, credit counseling, and family support.
As part of the program, HPC will open an interest-earning escrow account — similar to a savings account — in your name. If your rent increases because your employment income increases, then HPC will deposit money into your escrow account each month. When you complete the program, you will receive the full amount from the account.
Your Responsibilities
You must follow the service and training action plans included in your contract. You must also stay in touch with your FSS Coordinator and attend required classes and workshops. If you have an emergency that prevents you from continuing in the program, contact your FSS Coordinator right away.
